CHRIST, OUR LIFE
By Bill Stephenson
As I have been meditating in God's written word, it again has occurred to
me the importance of our living and vital fellowship with the God of our life. We can teach and talk of the deeper things of God all day and yet never really know or experience that which we are sharing. It is very important that
we let Christ become our very and only life SIMPLY BECAUSE HE ALREADY IS! We need to see this in a vital measure in our lives.
Christ Jesus is still our very life Colossians 3:4 says. He does not change and one morning when
you awake He decides He's not going to be your life that day. But our feelings mess us up many times. Often we are faced with pressing situations which seem to steer us from the already finished product. All the do and do nots of
the Christian life will give way to the eternal realities of our being in Christ as we look away from the things of this earth. I have heard many people say to me down through the years "I can't walk this way. How would I
live? Who would take care of me if I just walked in the Spirit?" You see, this is the lie many receive. As a true Christ man we are dead. That means we do not have a life!! If you do not have a life then how can you believe
you need to support yourself? I have heard people say "those people are too heavenly minded that they're absolutely no earthly good!" Oh really? Is this what Paul taught when he was uttering the counsel of God?
"If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with
Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory." Colossians 3:1-4
"Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of
heaven, where Christ sits at God's right hand in the place of honor and power. Let heaven fill your thoughts. Do not think only about things down here on earth. For you died when Christ died, and your real life is hidden with
Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your real life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory." (New Living Translation)
"You have been raised to life with Christ, so set your hearts on
the things that are in heaven, where Christ sits on his throne at the right side of God. Keep your minds fixed on things there, not on things here on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Your real
life is Christ and when he appears, then you too will appear with him and share his glory!" (Good News Bible)
"If, then, ye were raised with the Christ, the things above seek ye, where the Christ is, on the right
hand of God seated, the things above mind ye, not the things upon the earth, for ye did die, and your life hath been hid with the Christ in God; when the Christ -- our life -- may be manifested, then also we with him shall be
manifested in glory." Young's Literal
JOINED ONE SPIRIT
The word then in the Greek means consequently. Paul says to us since we have been raised up into heavenly places in Christ Jesus we are to do something
that people who are not raised up with Christ do not do! We are to "set our hearts on the things that are in heaven where Christ sits on his throne at the right side of God." Risen here means "to be raised up
together!" We are one Spirit now in Christ Jesus! We have come out of earth's order and now sit in heavenly spheres with Him! This resurrection from death, hell and the grave was a joint resurrection! Us and Christ in union
with one another! Yes!
This word seek in "seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God" means "to seek in order to find." It is defined as "to seek after"
and also to "meditate." It even means "to crave" which implies a hunger for the living God. This is true fellowship. Yes, as Christ men and women we already have God in us but unless and until we have a living
intimacy with Him we will never know Him! And this is God's desire for us. Paul said "that I might know Him in His death, burial, suffering and resurrection!" (Philippians 3:10)
When the Bible says for us to seek
those things ABOVE it means "on high!" The Lord God is the "Most High God" and this same God is our God. He is the very God of our existence. Now on a personal level, the Lord lives down on the inside of you.
This is where we find true fellowship. Unlike the new age, we believe in the one and true God through our Lord Jesus Christ. There is a safe haven for you; "Christ in you the hope of glory!!" (Colossians 1:27)
ENTERING GOD'S REST
So, we must enter into God's rest by seeing the finished work of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. We are dead, buried, raised and seated in Him. Now we reside in heavenly places. Now we live
out of heaven. Our economy is the economy, not of the earth, but of the Spirit. Which currency are you spending? Which realm do you live out of?
In this hour and day we must examine ourselves as Paul says. Do we really know
Christ is in us as our life? We must! Therefore, as we continue living and intimate fellowship with Him, we can together say "I am truly heavenly - minded. And, because I am, I will be earthly good." Why? Because Christ
is our goodness. And, He expresses Himself through us to many on the earth- even when we are not aware of it.
Live out of heaven. It's your inheritance. Don't throw it away. Blessings to you in Christ Jesus. Let's continue
our study from Colossians 3:1-4.
"If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For
ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory."
The Bible says for us to "set our affection on things above."
This word affection means "To direct one's mind to a thing, to seek, to strive for to seek one's interest or advantage; to be of one's party, side with him (in public affairs)."
Here we see we must place our minds
on a certain thing and that is the Lord Himself. This is the trouble with so many Christian people. There is a tendency to "look away" from the realm of God's reality. The enemy in the garden got Eve to "look
away" from the reality of God and turn to that which was not life.
Frankly, carnality comes in when we do not continue to behold God in the spirit. A person is in sheer unbelief when they look away from Jesus. They
live on yesterday's manna and yesterday's victories. There is not a current Word from heaven in the now of their lives.
This is how we come up with religion. Religion is simply a form of Godliness but denying the power. The
power is Christ Jesus dead, buried, raised and seated at rest. AND our being dead, buried, raised and seated at rest in Him!
